Meet Jess!

Specialist Literacy Teacher & Dyslexia Assessor

Jess founded Birchall House to provide a supportive, specialist service for families and schools who need clarity around a child's learning needs. She has worked as a qualified teacher since 2012, building her career in settings dedicated to neurodiverse learners — including autism specific schools, Emerson House (a specialist learning centre for SpLD), and a clinic in Wimbledon Village, where she worked as an educational consultant for parents. She has also worked as a SENCO in a mainstream setting, coordinating specialist input and building provision around each child's needs.

Literacy sits at the heart of Jess's work. She believes that children who learn to read gain more than a skill, they gain confidence and the freedom to succeed on their own terms. Reading, writing and oracy are, in her view, the foundations of all learning, and she is passionate about helping children and young adults discover how they learn best and reach their full potential.

Jess’s Experience Includes:

  • Qualified teacher since 2012, working across specialist and mainstream settings

  • Specialist experience in autism specific schools, developing expertise in supporting autistic learners

  • Former teacher at Emerson House, a specialist learning centre for SpLD

  • Educational consultant for parents at a clinic in Wimbledon Village

  • SENCO experience in mainstream schools, coordinating specialist provision
